An International Conference on the Strengthening of Research and Higher Education in Basic Sciences by Regional and Interregional Cooperation; Relevance for Developing Countries. How can regional and interregional cooperation best strengthen Basic Sciences in developing countries? How can cooperation be enhanced? In the cases where cooperation already exists, how has it improved postgraduate training and building of research capacity? What has been the impact on society? Which form of cooperation is most efficient under different circumstances and from different perspectives? What is the importance of education at all levels for the development of research and higher education in basic sciences? What is the role of governments and intergovernmental organizations in promoting research cooperation in the Basic Sciences?

Basic Sciences ISP is devoted to long-term support to institutional capacity building in research and higher education at faculties of science in developing countries, with focus on Basic Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Both research groups and network activities are supported, either directly or by coordination of Sida agreements.   All aspects of Basic Sciences are considered, including fundamental and applied research.
