Host City: Addis Ababa Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia. It is built on the side of Mount Entoto. The average altitude is about 8000 ft. or (2500 meters). It has a population of over 3.5 million. Addis Ababa is also the seat of the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Language The official language in Ethiopia is Amharic with English widely spoken by many people. Accommodation All Sponsored participants will be accommodated at the Jupiter Hotel. Visa All participants coming from countries where there are Ethiopian Embassies or Missions will be expected to obtain their visas there. In case of any difficulty, participants should immediately get in touch with the Conference Organizer who will facilitate the issuance of visas on arrival at Addis Ababa airport. Participants coming from countries where there are no Ethiopian Embassies or Missions are requested to send, as soon as possible, the following passport details along with photocopies of the first three pages of their passports to the conference organizer. Meeting and Assistance All participants will be met by the conference organizers at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and be transported to their Hotels. Please send us your flight details at least three days prior to your arrival. Other Important Tips Altitude The altitude of Addis Ababa may affect some visitors. You may feel a little tired or sleepless. Normally, this is for the first 24 hours. However, do not over exert yourselves by doing tiring exercises. Currency The “Birr” is the Ethiopian currency. U.S. $ 1.00 is equal to about Birr 11.02. As the Birr is floating, check before you change your currency. Weather The month of September is the end of the rainy season. The average day temperature will be around 17 Celsius and will be considerably less in the evenings and early mornings. Bring a warm jacket for the evenings. Shopping There are many shops selling Ethiopian souvenirs. There are also many jewelry shops with interesting designs and filigree works in gold and silver.
