Building Future Networks - April 22, 2021

- Participants: PhD students and Postdocs from Sida and ISP programs from Swedish universities
The NABC method was developed by the Stanford Research Institute many years ago. Since then millions of researchers all over the world have used the method to present their research in an easy-to-understand way. This is your opportunity to learn how to communicate the value of your research and avoid rejections based on incomprehension.
The purpose of the workshop is to create a ”soft” understanding of how to think about research from a user perspective, and how to present research in an easy to understand and compelling way.
ISP Fellow afternoon, 18 February 2021 - Sledding with ISP at Slottsbacken in Uppsala.
Program participants located in Uppsala had the opportunity to try out recreational sledding at the slopes of 16th century royal Uppsala castle.
To go sledding was a perfect stress buster, said Herieth Rhodes Mero from Tanzania.

ISP Fellow evening, 9 June 2020 - A virtual gathering in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
ISP hosted a virtual Fellow Evening on Zoom due to the limitations imposed by the covid-19 pandemic. The event featured an overview by Tom Britton, professor in Mathematic Statistics, Stockholm University on Mathematical modelling of infectious disease outbreaks. Participants were also given the opportunity to meet the new ISP board student representative Minh Thao Nguyen.
ISP Fellow Evening, 7 November 2019
ISP hosted a Fellow Evening at the Biomedical Center, Uppsala University on 7 November. Thanks to all PhD students and Postdocs who came by to mingle, eat and listen to a talk on soccer and mathematics by Soccermatics author and math professor David Sumpter.
ISP Student Day, 29 March 2019
On 29 March, 25 ISP- and Sida funded students took a well-deserved break from their research to join us in a guided tour of the Swedish Parliament and the Medieval Museum in Stockholm. The aim of the day was to promote networking while also providing insight and knowledge about Sweden. Thanks for a great day!
ISP/Sida Building Future Networks Seminar, 23 November 2018
Research and innovation was the theme of this year’s addition the annual ISP/Sida Building Future Networks seminar held 23 November at the Sida Headquarter in Stockholm. 110 PhD students and Postdocs from Sida and ISP programs traveled from universities all over Sweden to participate in this networking day.
Students were given practical information on insurance and immigration issues followed by discussion and experience sharing. The International Theater Stockholm came and put on a great show on cultural clashes based on student experiences, and Uppsala University Innovation opened our minds to the innovation and commercialization process of research with a lecture and a rapid prototype workshop. Sida held a session on important and helpful online resources.

ISP/NAI evening, 21 September 2017
On 21 September, we organized a fellow evening together with the The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI). We enjoyed finger food, mingle and a presentation on gold mining by researcher Cristiano Lanzano in the NAI library.
ISP Housewarming, 7 April 2017
On 7 April, students and collaborating partners attended the housewarming of our new offices at the Biomedical Centre (BMC) in Uppsala. We enjoyed Swedish sandwich cake and a quiz walk.
Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, 10 December 2016
On 10 December 2016 some ISP students and staff attended the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm City Hall.
Guided tour “In the footsteps of the slave trade”, 28 May 2016
On 28 May 2016 ISP students and staff enjoyed lunch and a guided tour in the Stockholm Old Town called “In the footsteps of the slave trade” developed by the African Swedish National Association aiming to increase the awareness of the Swedish involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. Sweden had a colony on the island Saint Barthélemy in the Caribbean for more than 90 years from the late 18th century and onwards.
Excursion to old Uppsala, 19 September 2015
On 19 September 2015 ISP students and staff enjoyed a sunny day in Old Uppsala. We got a guided tour of the museum and mounds. We also got to try out some fun games!
Bowling and burgers, 16 June 2015
On 16 June 2015 ISP students were invited for bowling and burgers in Uppsala. All together, 27 strikes and 37 spares were made!
Lucia celebrations, 11 December 2014
Lucia was celebrated together with our fellows at the ISP office on 11 December 2014. We had Christmas fika, decorated gingerbread cookies and listened to a fantastic Lucia choir.
Nobel Prize Ceremony, 10 December 2014
On 10 December 2014 some ISP students and staff attended the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm City Hall.
Dinner and Burkina Faso lecture, 10 November 2014
The autumn fellow evening was held at the ISP office on 10 November 2014. Prof Sten Hagberg from Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology at Uppsala University was invited to hold a presentation about the present situation in Burkina Faso.
Trip to Birka island, 30 August 2014
On 30 August 2014 ISP fellows enjoyed a full day execution to Björkö and Birka in the Stockholm archipelago. A guided tour of the island and the life of the Vikings was given followed by lunch on the ferry back to Stockholm
Dinner and IFS presentation, 3 April 2014
The first fellow evening of the year was held at the ISP office on 3 April. Dr Nighisty Ghezae and Dr Ingrid Leeman from International Science Foundation (IFS) were invited to hold a short presentation about IFS and possible funding opportunities available to the students.
