Pan-African Centre for Mathematics (PACM)
The Pan-African Centre for Mathematics (PACM) is a joint initiative between University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania and Stockholm University (SU), Sweden. The centre has not started its activities yet, but is in the phase of fund raising. A Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the centre was signed in 2010.
The importance of building a credible capacity in mathematical research in Africa is undeniable. Known models for realizing this goal are not sufficiently effective. It is proposed that a Pan-African Centre for Mathematics, providing graduate studies in mathematics, would furnish a robust and sustainable model for achieving this goal effectively.
